A Photographic Exhibit for the Benefit of ERDA Tech Vocational School …

Manila, PH – Born out of the urge to find a different platform to showcase their creativity and photographs outside the banal world of social media, six photographers choose to exhibit their distinctive works together in ‘Seeing Beyond’ that will run on January 04-30, 2018 at The Shoppes Artway, Solaire Resorts and Casino.

The six photographers of ‘Seeing Beyond’ (from left) – Jeff Dytuco, Michael Olivares, Angela Panlilio,
Ferdinand Tiongson, Bern Wong and Tony Rivera.

It is a photo exhibit for the benefit of ERDA Tech Vocational School. Through these evocative images, the six photographers share to their viewers a cathartic experience. Rather than being documentary or decorative, the photos invite the audience to the critical process of asking questions and reflecting.

In today’s fast-paced, information-saturated world that many are struggling to catch up with, Photographers – Dytuco, Tiongson, Wong, Rivera, Panlilio and Olivares present a refreshing breakaway that grounds us back to our most essential core and connects us as human beings. They are a testament to the expanding role of the photographer as not merely a documenter of moments, but as artists that relentlessly strive for new ways of seeing and bring to light deeper truths.

Jeff Dytuco’s serene, textured landscapes reveal an incredible scale and grandness
that can only point to a higher being.

Ferdinand Tiongson’s bared shadows of the human form evoke the primal and carefree.

Bern Wong’s ephemeral, abstract landscapes test the boundaries of photography to portray an otherworldly place and time that is free from stasis.

Tony Rivera’s poignant black and white pairing of unusual characters who are in many ways the same and yet, also dissimilar – juxtaposed in elements as simple as light and dark, gender or stature.

Angela Panlilio’s disjointed, asymmetric shots represent the fragments that form essential parts in the process of self-purification.

Michael Olivares’ distilled subjects stripped away of clutter and noise evoke a calmness and silence that set an atmosphere for meditation.

Amidst this diversity, what unites all six is a process of evident reflection. There is a slow, contemplative quality that is consistent among the works.

The fixation toward a certain landscape, person, object, or transient moment says as much about the subject as it does the author.

The photographers expose a way of self-discovering that allows themselves to be vulnerable enough to let the world reveal itself, rather than impose their own fixed, preconceived narratives to their subjects.
