Press Release No. 1: Nomination for Philippine E-Government Awards ongoing till September 20
The Philippine Internet Commerce Society (PICS) led by its current president Mary Anne D. Tolentino, launched the 1st Philippine E-Government Awards to recognize government agencies in coming up with relevant IT projects to comply with the provisions of Republic Act 8792 or The E-Commerce Law. On November 20, 2002, these government agencies will be awarded during PICS (www.pics.org.ph) National E-Commerce Congress.
The annual Philippine E-Government Awards cultivates the development of excellence in governance with the use of information technology.
The award categories are:
E-Filing Award
Government agencies that accepts the creation, filing or retention of government documents in the form of electronic data messages or electronic documents.
E-Permit Award
Government agencies that issue permits, licenses, or approval in the form of electronic data messages or electronic documents.
E-Payment Award
Government agencies that require and/or accept payments, and issue receipts acknowledging such payments, through systems using electronic data messages or electronic documents.
Excellence Award
Government agencies being able to perform its functions using electronic data messages or electronic documents.
At present, 15 government agencies have been nominated, such as, the Land Transportation Office, GSIS, LandBank, National Statistics Office, Department of Trade and Industry, National Library, Technology Livelihood Resource Center, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Foreign Affairs, among others. Interested individuals and trade organizations can submit government agency nominees till September 20, 2002 to the Special Projects committee Chairperson Janette Toral (info@pics.org.ph).
On November 20-22, 2002 at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental, PICS is organizing the annual National E-Commerce Congress and Exhibit, underscoring this year's theme 'Making Business Work in the NOW Economy'. This promotional activity is designed to sustain e-business amidst the prevailing global economic downturn and disturbing developments of dotcom and technology companies. The Philippine Internet Commerce Society (PICS) played the leading role in the advocacy and passage of the Philippines E-Commerce Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to promote e-business and e-governance two (2) years ago.
