Cancer: The Dreaded Disease and How to Counter-Attack
Every human cell contains an oncogene. It is a gene that controls cell growth and multiplication. When this gene is exposed to any or a combination of several factors it may undergo a malignant transformation. The result would be a dangerous multiplication of tumor-forming cells with unrestrained growth that infiltrates and destroys normal cells. These mutants no longer perform the specialized task of the cells of their host tissue. The cancer cells are in effect, parasites -- contributing nothing to their host but continuing to consume nutrients. But no matter how treacherous cancer spread is, prevention and early detection remain the more important and effective way of combating cancer. Know your risk factors and the best weapons against them. Speaker: Dr. Ramon Severino, Oncologist, Tumor Clinic of East Avenue Medical Center

Dealing with Osteoporosis
Our bodies are supported by more than 200 living structures that go through the normal process of breakdown and new growth -- our bones. In the early years of life, more "new bones" grow than break down. After early adulthood, however, the process is reversed so that more bones break down than are rebuilt. Osteoporosis develops when too much bone is lost through breakdown. Osteoporosis can happen to anyone although the disease is four times more likely to develop in post-menopausal women.
